Mag Frieren pokonała Króla Demonów wraz z drużyną bohatera Himmela po trwającej 10 lat wyprawie. W królestwie zapanował pokój. Ponieważ jest elfką, może żyć ponad tysiąc lat. Obiecuje Himmelowi i pozostałym, że wróci, by się z nimi zobaczyć, po czym wyrusza w samotną podróż. Pięćdziesiąt lat później Frieren udaje się z wizytą do Himmela i pozostałych. Ona sama pozostała niezmieniona, ale Himmel i pozostali postarzeli się i pozostało im już niewiele czasu życia. Później jest świadkiem śmierci Himmela. Frieren dręczy żal, że nie poświęciła więcej czasu na poznawanie ludzi. Z tym żalem w sercu wyrusza w podróż, by właśnie to zrobić. Podczas podróży spotyka wielu ludzi, a czeka ją wiele wydarzeń.
