Dziesięć lat temu pojawiła się „Brama”, łącząca świat rzeczywisty z krainą magii i potworów. Aby walczyć z tymi ohydnymi bestiami, zwykli ludzie otrzymali nadludzkie moce i zaczęto ich nazywać „Łowcami”. Dwudziestoletni Sung Jin-Woo jest jednym z takich Łowców, ale znany jest jako „Najsłabszy na Świecie” ze względu na swoją żałosną moc, która nie dorównuje nawet marnej klasie E. Mimo to niestrudzenie poluje na potwory w Bramach niskiej klasy, aby opłacić rachunki za leczenie swojej matki. Jednak ten nieszczęśliwy tryb życia ulega zmianie, gdy Jin-Woo – sądząc, że jako jedyny zginął podczas misji, która zakończyła się fatalnie – budzi się trzy dni później w szpitalu i dostrzega przed sobą unoszący się w powietrzu tajemniczy ekran. Ten „Dziennik zadań” wymaga od Jin-Woo ukończenia nierealistycznego i intensywnego programu treningowego pod groźbą odpowiedniej kary. Początkowo niechętny do poddania się z powodu surowości zadania, Jin-Woo wkrótce odkrywa, że może ono właśnie przemienić go w jednego z najgroźniejszych Łowców na świecie. Należy zauważyć, że zarówno w japońskiej wersji dubbingowej, jak i w samej grafice (np. imię zapisane na telefonie komórkowym), występuje wersja z japońskimi imionami, a także z koreańskimi imionami zaczerpniętymi z oryginalnego komiksu, na którym opiera się ta produkcja.

Jinwoo remains behind in the temple dungeon to save his few surviving party members, and with a swing from the god statue's blade, his life comes to an end—or so it seems, before he wakes up in a hospital bed.

Having entered the instance dungeon located inside the subway, Jinwoo levels up time and time again by fighting waves of magic beasts. As he gradually makes his way forward, he finds a long stairway leading deeper underground.
